I’m super excited to share with you my first ever magazine cover shot. It’s something every photographer aspires to and something i feel very proud about. Getting an image that is unique enough and able to tick all the cover shot boxes is no easy feat and i’m so glad to have finally done it.

Of course there’s two sides to every shot and mad props have to go to the rider Dane Tiene. He not only had the idea behind this shot but also the balls to pull it off. One little mistake would have had major consequences to say the least.

The shot is featured on the cover of Australia & New Zealand Snowboarder and a behind the scenes take on the shoot can be seen here

Its always funny how quick seasons tend to go. You never forget each individual one but they can often be a case of blink and you miss it. When back in February you say things like, “we’ve got plenty of time to shoot this” and then before you know it its all done and dusted and its time to pack up and move on. Well my time rolled by in Colorado this week as i packed my bags to head to California. The general consensus with flying is that anywhere near 23kgs is a perfect weight combination, anything more and you’re likely to find yourselves in lengthy excess baggage debates which can find you parting with 100’s of dollars before you step foot on the plane.

I was under no illusions about how heavy my bags are. I haven’t weighed them yet but without standing near a scale i can tell you that they wont even tease me with the notion that they are close to flying weight. They’re probably around 60kgs right now. Knowing this lead me to finding other routes heading West ending up with a car, bus, train, bus, bus, car combination that was to take me over 1,300 miles and 33 hours of my life. To make the trip more interesting i made a timelapse from Frisco in Colorado to Mammoth, California. I’m not sure it will be the best 6 minutes of your life but it was kind of fun putting it together.

Enjoy.

So the wheels firmly got put into motion as of this week and here’s a little update of whats gone on.

Firstly, my insurance company paid up this week for all of my gear that was stolen back in November. As you can imagine i’m super happy with this situation and i’ll write a little bit more about my experience at a later date along with reviews of the new equipment i’ll replace it with.

As soon as the money landed it kickstarted my season and i was on the next available flight to Denver. Now usually i’d be a little sceptical about flying into a new city without any plans but with the SIA winter sports trade show on in Denver i knew i’d stumble across friendly faces….

….Which leads me to this. I was lucky to bump into Tatsuya from Bravoski magazine and he invited me along on his little road trip convoy to the X-Games. We powered on through the night and have been treated to a beautiful blue sky on our arrival. Without my new camera set up i look a little out of place but hopefully this will be the start of a great season.

Canon EOS 40d and 18-55 kit lens. Ouch.

Hey Guys,

Not great news to tell you. Unfortunately all of my equipment has been stolen whilst working over in Barcelona this weekend. I was here covering the Barcelona Snow Show and after a great first day my bag was stolen containing everything that is important to me.

Hopefully i`ll be able to travel home tomorrow (my passport was also taken) and then get myself a new computer as soon as possible. I`ll have to build up everything from scratch again and a few of my newer toys weren`t on my insurance so i look set to take a big hit.

Luckily all of my previous images are safely backed up so i should be able to resume business as quickly and painlessly as possible. All of my images from this weekend though are long gone making the remaining part of this trip a complete misery.

More news to follow once i`m back home.
