Freeride World Tour – Chamonix

Posted by admin on 24 Jan 2012 / 0 Comment

So i just finished up at the Freeride World Tour over in Chamonix. It was my vist time covering a stop of this tour and i wasn’t quite sure what to expect. With my winter season slow to kick off after the cancellation of Red Bull Linecatcher it was time for the rolls to be reversed as i sat inside all Saturday due to too much snow in Chamonix. When the snow cleared and the light came out it was time for the event to go ahead. Probably the best part of the day was getting up the Brevent gondola (that i’ve previously ran up) whilst still dark and intime for an amazing moody sunrise around the Mont Blanc area.

With the competition done and dusted the whole operation upped and moved to neighbouring Italian resort Courmayeur as night moved in. After securing some work for the Italian stop, i’ve made the move over with them and look forward to another couple of days of freeriding before i move in the Germany direction for ISPO this weekend. Busy week travelling for sure!

Here’s that dramatic sunrise, and equally a dramatic of line taken from yesterday.

Cruising Around London, Part 2.

Posted by admin on 01 Nov 2011 / 0 Comment

London Freeze came and went over the weekend and i’m glad to see yet another city big air done and dusted. It was quite a cool weekend only having to get down to London as opposed to on a plane. Nice to catch up with friends and talk about the up and coming winter.

Cruising Around London

Posted by admin on 28 Oct 2011 / 0 Comment

Yesterday i took advantage of a free day in London. A quick visit to the Tate, a stroll around some shops and an evening catching up with some friends post photo shoot. Back to work today over at London Freeze and its surprisingly sunny. Here’s a few snapshots from my much loved Canon S95. Always in my pocket, always making great shots.

Eddie The Eagle

Posted by admin on 26 Sep 2011 / 0 Comment

There’s always a few leftover questions the day after big event. With so much going on it’s impossible to catch every single moment.

Sat on a train Geneva bound this morning I started to sort through some of my shots from yesterdays finals. Delete, keep, delete etc etc. This is when it all started….first of all, is this really Eddie the Eagle presenting an award? Yes. Next up, why on earth was Eddie the Eagle presenting an award at a Swiss extreme sport event? Who knows! And last of all, why on earth didn’t I have the chance to meet him? There’s nothing us Brits like more than athletes that have tried and failed and Eddie is a prime example. I’m pretty sure back in England people would be more impressed that you met him then say, the Queen. Really.

Eddie the Eagle aside this weekend was one of the most hectic weekends i’ve had in a while. Rather than just sticking to skiing I was required to shoot both that and snowboarding whilst writing a report and trying to get quotes from all the riders. Lots of running around but all came good and you can check it out over on ESPN right now.

Now its Geneva for a few days rest before IF3 over in Annecy this weekend. Lots and lots going on this week, stay tuned for updates.

Denver Premiere

Posted by admin on 21 Sep 2011 / 0 Comment

Two weeks ago i made it over to Denver for the Level 1 world premiere. Since then i’ve experienced a whirlwind of a time with a visit to New York and a friends wedding back here in the UK.

Of course throughout all that time there are plenty of images which i’m making my way through. Those wanting to check out shots from the actual premiere can see my gallery over at ESPN but for now i’m going to concentrate on shots from around Denver. Hiring bikes, cruising around the streets and grabbing a few shots along the way.

I didn’t try it to find out (more…)

Kumi Yama Photo Contest.

Posted by admin on 15 Jul 2011 / 1 Comment

As i mentioned in my previous post Kumi Yama had a photography contest included in it this year. Alongside my other work i also took part in the competition and now the results are online for people to see.

We had to submit four images depicting different themes; Rising Sun, Reflections, Gang Spirit and Pixel V’s HD. The first three images had to be presented digitally untouched as they were shot (which makes me rather sceptic of some of the other entries) where the final image was up to our interpretation.

The voting process is done by the public which makes it feel a little like a popularity contest with the largest number of Facebook friends having a certain heavy influence on the outcome. Regardless of that fact here are my four submitted images.

Rising Sun. Pretty simple shot of Japanese skier Kentaro Tsuda on the kicker.

Kumiyama Time Again.

Posted by admin on 05 Jul 2011 / 0 Comment

This weekend was my third visit to Les Deux Alpes for the annual Kumiyama event. As with previous years this Ski, Snowboard and Photography competition was Japanese themed and it carried so much more significance after this years earthquake back in March.

As with all the other years, this one was so much fun and a great success. I blogged about event over on the ESPN Freeskiing blog which you can check out and also took part in the photo competition, which i’ll give you more details about over the coming days.

Until then remember the motto, WE RIDE FOR JAPAN!!!!!

Skiing in France in July? Tatsuya Tayagaki, Shinhi Osada and Kentaro Tsuda get their Super Mario gear on to take on the Kumiyama course.

On the road with ESPN

Posted by admin on 03 Jun 2011 / 0 Comment

I’m really happy to announce that from today i’ll be an occasional contributor over on the ESPN freeskiing blog. It’s great to be associated with such a prominent company and i’m looking forward to future posts i’ll be making later in the year.

To start it off there is a gallery up from my time spent with Parker White and Chris Logan during the busy spring shooting schedule with Level 1 productions. It was such a busy month covering 2,500 miles, 5 states, 3 ski resorts and lifetimes worth of burritos. The gallery shows a little insight to that month so check it out by clicking on the picture below.
