Shooting in Champéry

Posted by admin on 09 Feb 2012 / 0 Comment

After everything that went down over at ISPO in Munich, i had a few days recovering back home in the UK before coming back out to Switzerland for a filming trip. Meeting up with a Level 1 Productions crew consisting of Josh Berman with skiers Wiley Miller, Parker White and Chris Logan we arrived in Champéry in what felt like the coldest spell ever. After a few days with the thermometer hovering around -22c its warmed up a little for us to get this trip started. It’s great being back in the filming lifestyle and it’s even better being in a zone like the Portes Du Soleil with its endless options and terrain.

More to come as the trip continues…..

Level 1 Bonus slideshow

Posted by admin on 27 Dec 2011 / 0 Comment

In previous years around this time i’ve taken a look back over the year and put together a number of images to sum up what i’ve been doing over those 365 days. I’ve decided to skip that style of post this year as my recently released new website does a pretty good job at showing some of the highlights of the year.

Saying that, i thought it would be nice to show you something as we move into the new year. During the last 12 months i’ve been lucky enough to spend a whole bunch of time with Level 1 productions putting in some serious mileage on the way. With their recent movie now released a photo slideshow of mine came as a bonus feature on the DVD and also the Itunes download. I haven’t put the slideshow online myself until now so i hope you enjoy a few of my shots i’ve compiled along the way.

With one pre season trip to Sweden already in the bag, i look forward to this next one. I’m off to Switzerland tomorrow so if another blog post doesn’t make it before new year, have a great new year and i’ll see you soon out on the snow.

Denver Premiere

Posted by admin on 21 Sep 2011 / 0 Comment

Two weeks ago i made it over to Denver for the Level 1 world premiere. Since then i’ve experienced a whirlwind of a time with a visit to New York and a friends wedding back here in the UK.

Of course throughout all that time there are plenty of images which i’m making my way through. Those wanting to check out shots from the actual premiere can see my gallery over at ESPN but for now i’m going to concentrate on shots from around Denver. Hiring bikes, cruising around the streets and grabbing a few shots along the way.

I didn’t try it to find out (more…)

On the road with ESPN

Posted by admin on 03 Jun 2011 / 0 Comment

I’m really happy to announce that from today i’ll be an occasional contributor over on the ESPN freeskiing blog. It’s great to be associated with such a prominent company and i’m looking forward to future posts i’ll be making later in the year.

To start it off there is a gallery up from my time spent with Parker White and Chris Logan during the busy spring shooting schedule with Level 1 productions. It was such a busy month covering 2,500 miles, 5 states, 3 ski resorts and lifetimes worth of burritos. The gallery shows a little insight to that month so check it out by clicking on the picture below.

Spring Shoots Wrap Up At Alpine Meadows

Posted by admin on 14 May 2011 / 1 Comment

A month ago i hooked up with Level 1 Productions for their springtime park shoot programme. I joined forces with skiers Parker White and Chris Logan as we drove from Tahoe to Idaho to Colorado and back to Tahoe clocking up roughly 2500 miles and a whole lot of great stories. The word ‘Spring’ has often been missing from these park shoots with weather changing on a day to day basis, including one of the craziest snow storms of the season – on May the 1st in Breckenridge!

This last week we’ve gone full circle finding ourselves back where the road trip started in Tahoe. Experiencing our first actual spring like conditions over at Alpine Meadows resort we enjoyed some cool features with BBQ and beer to hand. All good things must come to an end though as my North American venture comes to a close. I’m about to board a plane from Reno as i make my way back to Europe and onto the next chapter. Until then here’s a photo which i feel sums up the week at Alpine – Level 1 cinematographer Kyle Decker enjoying our first real taste of spring.

Breckenridge Park Shoot

Posted by admin on 04 May 2011 / 0 Comment

The Sun Valley shoot was put to bed last week and we made our way across country over to Breckenridge in Colorado. We arrived here into what seemed like mid winter as snow was dumping all around us making this spring shoot feel more like february time.

This morning though we woke up to better weather and made our way up to the jump which Breckenridge park crew had built for this shoot. What was awaiting us up top was some crazy solar rings high up in the sky. A perfectly shaped jump and a beautiful sky makes a great way to start the day.

Parker White Triple at Sun Valley

Posted by admin on 27 Apr 2011 / 0 Comment

Parker White getting a ride to the top of the drop in

For the last 10 days i’ve been up in Idaho at Sun Valley Resort with Level 1 Productions. Sun Valley have been amazing to us designing some of the craziest features including a 110 foot “volcano jump” which everyone has been loving. As of late the ski industry has been awash with talk about triples, with videos being released on a daily basis showing us the latest variation. Here at Sun Valley with a perfect jump it felt only right that at least one of the athletes step up and throw down a triple of their own. With over 50,000 views in under 24 hours it goes to show that triples are what everyone wants to see, so sit back and feast your eyes on this one by Parker White. It’s just a little bit special…..

Sapporo Nights

Posted by admin on 23 Feb 2011 / 2 Comments

My japanese adventure with Level 1 Productions has just come to an end after two weeks of shooting in Hokkaido, the north island of Japan with a great crew consisting of Tanner Rainville, Wiley Miller, Parker White, Jimbo Morgan, Josh Berman and Tatsuya Tayagaki. During the trip we experienced such a variation in snow conditions making decision making tricky at times deciding what zones to head to. Luckily the snow gods were on hand to dump such a large amount of snow giving us at least a few days of deep Japanese Pow everyone comes to expect.

In comes the snow

Lots of great stories will emerge from this trip over the coming months and i can’t wait to see the footage compiled for this years movie.

We finished up the trip last night in Sapporo with a trip to a Korean BBQ. The guys have all boarded planes back to the States today as i’ve headed back to Niseko for a couple of days of sorting images, catching up on emails and maybe even treating my clothes to a laundry cycle.

On the road in Japan

Posted by admin on 14 Feb 2011 / 0 Comment

I’m one week into a 2 week filming mission with Level 1 productions over in Hokkaido, the northern island of Japan. I’ve been dying to get back over to Japan since i used to live here and i leaped at this opportunity to get out here shooting in the backcountry.

The days are long searching for the best quality fresh snow as we drive around in our little white van on the hunt for some fresh Japan powder.

I’ll bring about a bigger update a little further down the week but until then here’s a sneak preview of the trip.
