Cruising Around London, Part 2.

Posted by admin on 01 Nov 2011 / 0 Comment

London Freeze came and went over the weekend and i’m glad to see yet another city big air done and dusted. It was quite a cool weekend only having to get down to London as opposed to on a plane. Nice to catch up with friends and talk about the up and coming winter.

Cruising Around London

Posted by admin on 28 Oct 2011 / 0 Comment

Yesterday i took advantage of a free day in London. A quick visit to the Tate, a stroll around some shops and an evening catching up with some friends post photo shoot. Back to work today over at London Freeze and its surprisingly sunny. Here’s a few snapshots from my much loved Canon S95. Always in my pocket, always making great shots.

Winter comes to London

Posted by admin on 27 Oct 2010 / 0 Comment

So it’s that time of the year again where the winter world descends on London for the Freeze Festival . It usually turns out to be a fun weekend as a chance to catch up with friends before we think about the winter season that’s ahead of us.

I’m going to be delving into the world of video at the event which will be a great learning curve whilst taking a step back from shooting photos. I’ll be working with Japanese skier Shinji Osada who is making his way to London from Tokyo right around now. Fingers crossed we’ll have some fun.

Here’s a shot of Shinji from a sunset session up at Les Deux Alpes last year to get you in the mood.

Renting Lenses

Posted by admin on 05 Nov 2009 / 0 Comment

As mentioned in my last post, i decided to rent a 45mm Canon Tilt Shift for the London Freeze event. The lens has the ability to tilt and shift the focal plane throwing both the background and foreground out of focus. By doing this it has the ability to destroy the sense of scale in the photo often making a miniature especially if taken looking down on something.

I’ve wanted to try one for a year or so but haven’t been in the right circumstances for it. When i found out late last week that i’d be attending the Freeze event but with a really loose commission leaving me with plenty of free time, i knew that it was a great opportunity to experiment with the lens. Calumet photo based in London rents all sorts of professional equipment and they have a great system where you can rent from Friday until Monday for the price of a one days rental. For a lens that retails for around £1000 its great to try it out for less that £50.

Here’s a few example shots of whats possible with the lens. I can imagine the novelty would wear off after a while but if used sparingly then you can achieve some great, and totally unique shots.

FreeStyle Ski Feature

Posted by admin on 02 Nov 2009 / 0 Comment

I woke up this morning with an email from FreeStyle Ski magazine showing me a draft of the latest issue. Seeing a whole section of your images is a great way to start the week and it has a special surreal twist as i actually spent the whole of today sightseeing around London with Japanese skier Shinji Osada, who features in this article.

The feature is from back in July on the glacier at Les Deux Alpes at Kumi Yama. Hopefully we should be seeing some more shots from this session run over the next month so i’ll keep my eyes out for them.

On Route To The Freeze

Posted by admin on 30 Oct 2009 / 0 Comment

It all seemed a bit surreal this morning flying over the Swiss Alps at sunrise. Looking down at the beautiful snow covered mountains it seemed strange to be heading to London…..for snowboarding. So here i am, after another night on a bench in Zurich i’ve made it to London. Freeze time!

One Hit Wonder Final Edit

Posted by admin on 28 Oct 2009 / 0 Comment

I just stumbled across the final edit from the One Hit Wonder event that i was at whilst in Australia last month. It was such a cool event to be involved with and you can see how the chilled vibe attracted some insane action. The double front flip with superman in the middle gets me every time! This video is so good,  well worth 5 minutes of your time.

Its a good time to start getting stoked for the up and coming winter and this video comes at a perfect time for people attending London Freeze this weekend. I was asked only yesterday to go and shoot the event for Bravoski with Japan being represented by skier Shinji Osada. Here’s a photo of Shinji i took back in July up on the glacier at Les Deux Alpes.

So yeah, my bags aren’t quite packed but will be jetting back to the UK tomorrow with a brief 12 hour stint to look forward to in Zurich – the pitfalls of booking a ticket so late! check back next week for a review of the weekends events. In the meantime you can get all the latest news by becoming a fan on Facebook, subscribing to the blog so you never miss a beat or getting all the “breaking news” by following me on Twitter.

We love scaffolding

Posted by admin on 26 Oct 2008 / 1 Comment

Who would of thought that a load of scaffolding assembled together in a run-down industrial estate south of the River Thames could be so much fun. Well, this weekend Londonfreeze rocked into town and we were greeted with some wicked snowboarding and skiing action.

drop-in

Like most snowboard events that i’ve ever been to, the day of the FIS Worldcup was overcast and the light for photos pretty poor. I must say though i had some fun whilst on “crash cam” so to speak. Here’s a couple that caught my eye. I really hope that Marco Grilc is ok though as he looked in serious pain as he was taken off the landing area by paramedics.

I’m looking forward to venturing over to Europe this week for the next round of the halfpipe worldcup. I’m hoping for some blue skies and beautiful days but in the meantime lets keep it dirty in this scaffolding dream!
